Dear Bookworms,
Christmas is coming! It’s my favorite holiday, so I get very excited. One of the things I love about it is that it is so full of tradition and nostalgia. No matter how old you get, there is always something about Christmas that reminds you of your childhood. If, like me, you read a lot as a child, you’re probably familiar with the Little Golden Books. Those sweet stories, which are so easily recognizable on the shelf by the shiny spines grouped together en masse or just glinting out here and there between other books, are a staple for young readers.
Well this year there is a new Golden Book for those who want to catch up on all the Christmas-related Golden Books at once. In Everything I Need to Know About Christmas I Learned From a Little Golden Book, Diane Muldrow reminds us that no matter how much there is to do around the holidays and how stressful it can be, Christmas has always been the most wonderful time of the year. She emphasizes this point by pairing her text on each page with the images from over forty classic Golden Book stories.
From the familiar brushstrokes of Richards Scarry to the soft images by Eloise Wilkin, dozens of classic authors and illustrators are represented. While most are from specifically holiday-themed books, a few illustrations from classic tales such as The Twelve Dancing Princesses do appear as well. It’s a sweet jaunt down memory lane of the books you read to yourself, to your children, or to your class that brings the message of Christmas in true Little Golden Book fashion. So as Muldrow says, let’s deck the halls, take some time to be still, and believe!
Which Little Golden Books hold the most memories for you?
Merry Christmas!
