Hello Readers, Welcome to Day Seven of The 12 Days of Books!
Today’s highlight is trip down memory lane for any girl who grew up in the 80s and 90s when the American Girl dolls hit the scene! The Pleasant Company’s original five girls: Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, and Molly captured the hearts of young ladies across the country, and have since added many other beloved characters to their sisterhood.
An integral part of the American Girl charm is that each doll has her own book series which tells her story and gives children a taste of what life was like for kids in each of their respective periods in American history.
For many of the earlier series, written by Valerie Tripp, each set took care to depict the culture and customs of the chosen era in relation to a specific set of things that have significance in a child’s world, among them: school, family, birthdays, and of course, Christmas.
Book Three of each set is dedicated to the topic of Christmas. Through each girl’s eyes we learn about the Christmas traditions that were specific to the periods and locations across our nation, and are reminded that while the forms of our celebration may change, the true meaning of this holiday spans time and place.
