Hello Readers!
Welcome to Day Six of The 12 Days of Books. The Bridge by Karen Kingsbury is a Christmas book for all of you bibliophiles. It is sweet, sappy, and involves saving a local bookstore. What could be more appealing?
Molly Allen lives in Portland and Ryan Kelly lives in Nashville. The two used to be romantically involved but, five years ago, they ended it. Ryan often takes comfort in a local bookstore called “The Bridge” (the oldest bookstore in downtown Franklin) where he can get lost in a good book and remember the time he spent there with Molly.
Charlie and Donna Barton, the couple who run the bookstore, managed to maintain this local treasure filled with old books and coffee in a digital age. When the bookstore is flooded and the entire inventory water-logged, it looks like the doors of “The Bridge” might close permanently.
Can the pending doom of an independent bookstore serve as an impetus to reunite Molly and Ryan? I know – sounds cheesy . . . that’s because it IS cheesy. But also wonderful and magical and the perfect book to read this Christmas season.
The film adaptation is premiering on Hallmark tonight at 8:00. If you have already read the book, I recommend tuning in. If you have NOT read it, record the movie on your DVR, go to your local bookstore, buy a copy, and drink some coffee.
