The Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center is at the heart of Christmas in New York. If you have ever visited Rockefeller Center, you know that it is packed with tourists at Christmastime. Even though everyone knows it’s a tourist trap from Thanksgiving to New Years, it is impossible to visit New York in December and NOT steal a glance of the magnificent tree overlooking the ice rink.
In The Christmas Thief, a novel by mother-daughter team Mary Higgins Clark & Carol Higgins Clark, the tree that’s chosen to be brought to Rockefeller Center is from Stowe, Vermont. What the team responsible for choosing the tree does not know is that Packy Noonan, a scam artist just released from prison, stashed priceless diamonds in the branches of that tree twelve years ago.
When the tree goes missing, Alvirah and Willy Meehan, a reoccurring couple in Higgins’ novels, team up with a private investigator to find the tree and get it to New York in time for Christmas.
This delightful little suspense novel is the perfect book to curl up with this Holiday season. Don’t start it too late in the evening because you won’t be able to put it down until you’ve solved the mystery!
