Hello Beautiful People,
First, let me say this — congratulations!!!
You did it.
Four years of blood, sweat, and laughter. Four years of hard work, love, and tears — and you finally made it.
Cap on head, diploma in hand — you have now joined the ranks of the college graduates.
And that, despite what anyone may tell you, is worth celebrating.
Your time, you dedication, your growth, you determination to see it all through, it is worth celebrating.
To my fellow artist grads, do hear this.
It’s true what they say, the road to success is not always easy. But I urge you to look at success differently, for the measure of success does not always look like what we had originally imagined, what we see on the social media streams or movie screens or television.
Success is often found in the tiny moments that can all too often be swept under the rug…
…meeting your idol. Holding a new script in your hand. Getting cast in a show that you’ve always wanted to work on, despite the small paycheck. A fourteen hour shoot for only 1 minute onscreen. Seeing your student perform a flawless routine for the first time. Gracing the stage of your favorite Broadway house. Your first standing ovation post graduation. Seeing your name in print. Seeing your words come alive.
So, dear graduates, I hope you never lose sight of the dreams you had back on your college campus. I hope the whispers of glory and the hope of bright lights that peppered your conversations in the wee hours of the morning come true.
I hope the cities that you go to embrace you with open arms — and that you never lose that spark.
For your spark, your love to create, that will serve you well.
It’s your love of art that will take you far, and should you do what you love, the money will always come.
