Hello Beautiful People,
Throughout the month of November, we’ve been gushing about Silver Sparrow, by Tayari
Jones. We actually teamed up with Close Reads Cafe to make this particular read an even BIGGER group event.
We. Loved. The. Book.
We all have so many secrets, don’t we? Well, maybe not so many, but it’s safe to say that we all have secrets. It’s safe to say that life is definitely not black and white, but instead a shade of grey. Life’s messy. Love’s messy. It’s beautiful and glorious and complicated. But, it’s messy.
This book, well, it deals with the mess.
My father, James Witherspoon, is a bigamist.
THAT is the first line of this book. But, refreshingly so, it’s not really a book about a bigamist. It’s a book about two teenage girls. One, well, she knows the dirty little secrets of her mother and father. The other? Well, she lives in a world of deliberate, delicate, peaceful bliss. Until one day her sister comes and bursts her bubble.
Does love win out? Does lust triumph? Can a man love two women and two daughters at the same time? What will James Witherspoon do, should he be forced to choose between the two sets of women in his life?
Is infidelity EVER acceptable?
These questions and more, are addressed in this lovely novel.
But, we’re not going to answer them in this review.
Instead, we’re going to invite you to join the discussion with Close Reads Cafe, this Sunday. Yes, this Sunday.
