Hello Beautiful People,
Morgan Blake is an Atlanta based photographer. But really, she’s a storyteller. Her images capture people and their stories. The joy in their eyes, the heartache that they carry, the sparkle of the unknown.
Really, Morgan is a storyteller.
And I’m so happy that she was able to do this Q&A in our Write Teacher(s) Gallery!
So, without further ado, meet Morgan Blake.

MM: First things first, did you always want to be a photographer?
mb :: Well, I always loved taking photographs of friends. I always had my point and shoot all through highschool, it wasnt until after I graduated when I was stuck in school trying to figure out what I wanted to do when someone advised me to be the best at whatever I already was…so I figured, I’ll go try to be great at photography. I left college and to art school I went.
MM: Film or digital camera?
mb :: Both. Film for fun, digital for the job.
MM: What’s the first thing you do on a photoshoot?
mb :: Look at light, find my spaces, encourage my subject.
MM: What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to aspiring photographers?
mb :: To just shoot all the dang time. It makes you better, it makes you think quicker, it allows you to learn your camera. Shoot inside, and out…and take your camera off automatic like yesterday.
MM: If you were stranded on a desert island, what television shows and movies would you want available to you?
mb :: Well, I dont own and TV and I’m not the biggest movie watcher. Ridiculous, I know. But I do love FRIENDS, and the movie Eat, Pray, Love.
MM: What books are permanently on your bookshelf?
mb :: my bible, bread and wine, vivian maier + the meaning of marriage
MM: What sound do you love, what sound do you hate?
mb :: the dishwasher + crinkling chip bags
MM: What’s next for Moe Blake?
mb :: I’m getting married! So thats a big next. I’m taking it slow this year, after a crazy filled 2014. So, to be quite honest im not sure whats next – I’ll probably be traveling with my new huz.
MM: What reasons would you give to a politician or school board for preserving arts programming in education?
mb :: I am positive that everyones brain is wired differently, and i know mine was wired to think and learn creatively. If i was forced to sit in math, science, and history classes throughout my college years…I would have never known my passion and love for the arts. It needs to be an option while a child is growing, just in case they get a creative spark — and need to know what to do with it.
MM: Who is.was your greatest teacher?
mb :: School teacher? That’d be my last photography professor. He was mean and rude and harsh – but he pushed me…and sometimes thats just what we need.
Thanks, Mo! And Write Teacher(s) readers, catch up with Morgan on instagram at @MoeBlake.
