Hello Friends!
Today, we went to see A Letter to Heiner Müller at La MaMa E.T.C, on the Ellen Stewart Stage.
Words are failing us.
And, yes, it’s in a good way.
First, let us tell you all about A Letter to Heiner Müller, via the La MaMa website:
We were, and still are, in AWE of Goran Bogdan, Frano Maškovic, Danijel Ljuboja, and the Zagreb Youth Theatre.
Absolutely. In. Awe.
We applaud Bojan Đorđev & Goran Ferčec. Bravo!
A Letter to Heiner Müller runs about an hour-long. At La MaMa theatre, you were quite literally thrown into the performance. The actors were already waiting for you when you walked through the doors, the lights were already set…it was a performance even before you reached your seat. And, the performance happened all around you, above you, right next to you…
It was intense.
But, more than your typical play, it was an experience. It truly is hard for us to write a review, as the first half of the play is done in Croatian with English subtitles. You are constantly watching, alert, and not quite sure what these actors have in store for you next. They. Keep. You. On. The. Edge. Of. Your. Seat. They make you realize how much we WATCH each other, take each other in, and our sheer presence can/will affect another life.
It’s the type of play that you feel & internalize.
It’s the type of play that leaves you guessing & craving more…
…it’s an interactive experience.
It’s the type of play that leaves you contemplating, wondering, looking internally. It’s the type of play that makes you question. It’s the type of play that will stretch your mind.
To the cast & crew of A Letter to Heiner Müller…thank you.
