Hello Beautiful People,
I remember when I was younger, my mom used to let me stay up to watch two movies that were past my bedtime. She wuold make me go to bed the same time as my little brother, and then once he had dozed off, I’d creep downstairs and we’d watch one of two films.
One was West Side Story…
…the other, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, I’m talking about the film with Lesle Lesley Ann Warren and Ginger Rogers and Celeste Holm. No cartoons for this kid, I watched classic musicals on my telveision.
So, when it was announced that Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella would be making its way to the Broadway stage after all these years, my ten year old self was absolutely elated.
And so, last weekend, I finally got to see the show, and it was lovely, indeed.
Visually speakings, the show is a stunner. The lights, the set, and the costumes, oh the costumes, well William Ivey Long has created mutliple masterpieces with the two dresses of Laura Osnes alone, and that’s not even touching the rest of the dresses that clad the dynamic ensemble.
Santino Fontana brings comedy and heart to Prince Topher, and Laura Osnes is picturesque as Cinderella. The two make an interesting pair, and both were nominated for the Tony Award. My personal favorite is Victoria Clark – she’s just absolutely stunning, a voice of epic proportions.
This is a show that will make you feel…lovely. There’s It’s warm, it’s fuzzy, and hey, it has a fairytale ending.
