Last night I went to Margaritaville.
Well, no.
Last night, I went to the Marquis Theatre, where I saw the new musical, Escape to Margaritaville!
If you love Jimmy Buffet, this musical is for you. If you’re stressing about the current state of the world and just want to run away for two and a half hours and laugh, this musical is for you.
Here’s the official blurb:
From last year’s Tony Award®-winning director CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY and music’s favorite storyteller JIMMY BUFFETT comes “the feel-good musical that finds the joy of living in the moment” (Chicago Sun-Times).
ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE is the musical comedy featuring both original songs and your most-loved JIMMY BUFFETT classics, including “Fins,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and many more. With a book by Emmy® Award winner GREG GARCIA (“My Name is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy®nominee MIKE O’MALLEY (“Survivor’s Remorse,” “Shameless”), this electrifying new production is choreographed by Tony Award® nominee KELLY DEVINE (Come From Away, Rock of Ages) and directed by Tony Award® winner CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY (Come From Away, Memphis).
My favorite parts? Paul Alexander Nolan. There is nothing the man cannot do. Erik Peterson will have you laughing so hard you’ll probably cry, as will Andre Ward. Allison Luff is a musical treasure, as is Lisa Howard. The dynamics between Rema Webb and Don Sparks will also make your heart happy.
And, this ensemble is the reason there should be a Tony Award for Best Ensemble. They undoubtedly keep the sparkle on the stage, and the magic in the air.
I’m going to stop now, cause there’s something special about being surprised when you walk into a theatre – and I don’t want to spoil the rest.
So head on down to the Marquis Theatre for a night of fun, laughter, and Buffett.
