You have ten more days to see Latin History for Morons! And, if you’re financially able to see this show, go see it. Not doing so would be a mistake. Or moronic. You get the point.
Here’s the official blurb –
When his son gets a school assignment on heroes, John seizes the chance to teach him all about the great figures of the Latino world. But once he sets out on his irreverent crash course across three continents and 3000 years of history—from conquistadores to cumbia, Montezuma to Menudo, and taking on the characters in all of it—he uncovers provocative truths that shock even him.
Here’s my take –
It’s a wonderful blend of humor, heart, and history. John is once again, unbelievably captivating – as a comedian, as a man going through his own struggles, and as a father, who wants nothing but the best for his son. The set (Rachel Hauck) and lighting (Alexander V. Nichols) design is fantastic – the perfect layer to this one man show.
We all need a hero. And heroes come in different sizes and different colors. They speak different languages, and come from different places – and this show brings those differences to life on the stage, and for me, that’s beautiful. That’s important. That how we, as people, grow. From hearing the stories of people who are different than us, for from those differences comes a collective strength unlike anything we could ever imagine.
Latin History for Morons is running at Studio 54 until February 25th. Tickets and additional information are available here.
