LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES begins with two former lovers who plot and scheme to ruin the reputation of an innocent young female aristocrat. As their game of seduction and manipulation becomes more intricate, they quickly discover that the stakes are higher than they bargained for… and their last encounter may be their most dangerous by far.
Good God you must see this show.
I walked into the theatre not knowing what to expect, and I was blown away.
Janet Mcteer is a force to be reckoned with. La Marquise de Merteuil swings back and forth from being a broken soul to megalomaniac. Liev Schreiber is magnetic. He commands the stage with grace and ease, and perfects the blend of not knowing if you should hate or love Le Vicomte de Valmont. And that’s the beauty of this story – for the characters of Les Liaisons are muddled and complicated and not one thing.
But then again, none of us are only one thing.
We’re muddled, interesting, horrifying, beautiful creatures – and that’s what makes life interesting.
As a theatre kid, I was entranced by the production.
As a person, I was inspired by this production.
As a director, I am in awe of, and inspired by Josie Rourke. So much so, that the next day in my own rehearsal for a production of Crimes of the Heart, I changed my blocking.
Les Liaisons Dangereuses is a limited run, so do be sure to catch it before it closes. Tickets are available here.
