Hello Beautiful People,
Misery on Broadway will be playing at The Broadhurst Theatre until Valentine’s Day. Now, I had never read the book nor had I seen the movie, so when we were invited to Misery’s Bloggers and Social Influencer Night, I gladly accepted.
For those of you who are not familiar with this story, the formal synopsis is thus:
Following a near-fatal car accident, a world-famous novelist finds himself in a strange house being nursed back to health by his doting, self-proclaimed Number One Fan. But as her love for his work turns to dangerous obsession, he realizes he must plot his greatest story yet: how to escape with his life.
Adapted for the Broadway stage by two-time Academy Award® winner William Goldman and based on the classic Stephen King novel, MISERY plays a strictly limited engagement (it closes in February!)
My take:
This is not the first time I had seen Laurie Metcalf onstage, and, I must say, she amazes me every time. As Annie Wilkes she is undoubtedly creepy, and rather frightening, and yet, there are times when as an audience member you cannot help but pity Annie – so pathetic in her longing of a life that does not exist. Anything that Laurie Metcalf is in, is always worth seeing.
The aesthetic of this show is superb, from the set design of David Korins, to the lighting design of David Weiner, to the sound design of Darron L. West, to the costume designs of Ann Roth, and every single detail in between – everything is crafted with precision and skill. A must see for all aspiring technicians!
