Hello Beautiful People,
I’m warning you now, prepare to read gushing comments about SHOWBIZ. Swooning, praising, loving comments about SHOWBIZ. I wish there had been more books like this when I was in college, as it’s that inspiring. If I could hug this book, I would. Perhaps I already did…
…Alas, I digress.
SHOWBIZ, by Ruby Preston is an absolutely, positively, delicious treat. It has been quoted as being “The Devil Wears Prada meets NBC’s Smash“, and truthfully, I’m a little upset I didn’t think of that phrasing first – because they are absolutely right.
At the heart of Showbiz is Scarlett Savoy. Scarlett works for Margolies, the “King of Broadway”, a ruthless producer. Ruthless, well, that’s putting it nicely. Margolies is practically demonic, and has absolutely zero appreciation for the fact that Scarlett gives him one hundred and ten percent. Two hundred percent. The girl’s entire life is devoted to assisting him with producing his shows, and yet, he never utters a thank you.
But, Scarlett takes it all in stride. She is a powerhouse. Although there are times when she falters, especially in the face of love, which comes to her in the form of an influential theater gossip columnist, Reilly Mitchell. There is a spark between them that is undeniable, but, can a Broadway producer and a gossip columnist who feeds off of the stories of Broadway players make a relationship work? Can Reilly be trusted?
Did you think I was going to tell you? Come on now, don’t you all know me better than that by now?
What I will tell you is the following:
Scarlett manages to keep her sights set on her goal, on what she wants out of life, and what is right, and yet take a chance on letting Reilly into her heart and life. How that works out? Well, you’ll have to wait and see. And while this romance is blooming, she forms wonderful friendships and partnerships with a dynamic duo, composer/lyricist team – the Jeremy’s, who pen a story that could potentially allow Scarlett to cement her own place on the Great White Way as a producer. Oh, and she also tests the waters of her friend and sometimes (much older) lover, Lawrence. Yes, you read that right. And Lawrence makes for a wonderful addition to this cast of characters.
You’ll adore this story, which reads more like a classic chick flick than a novel. It’s truly a wonderful debut novel, and guess what? There’s two more books in this trilogy. {insert applause here}
So go, get yourself a copy of SHOWBIZ. It will touch the hearts of theater lovers, romantics, workaholics, and those who have an appreciation for the great city of Manhattan, and for those who don’t already adore those things, after reading this book, I can assure you that you will.
