One week ago I was invited to see Small Mouth Sounds.
Small Mouth Sounds, written by Beth Wohl and directed by Rachel Chavkin, is about six strangers who flee from the city to a silent retreat in the woods. It’s awkward. It’s funny. It’s sad. It’s charming.
It’s amazing what happens when words and voice and electronics are taken from you.
It’s amazing what happens when you have to sit. In the quiet. With just the thoughts echoing in the chamber of your brain.
It’s brilliant.
It seems the world fell apart in the days following, and it’s got me thinking that perhaps, there’s something to silence. Something to removing yourself from the excess chatter and noise of those around you, and taking time to reflect. Reflection on what’s breaking you, reflection on what’s reviving you, reflection on what’s exciting you.
In a world that never sleeps due to the constant internet buzz, watching a show about the gift of silence, the quirkiness of human connection, and the threads that bind us all is a breath of fresh air.
This is a limited run, folks, so get your tickets now.
In fact, you can get them right here.
You’ll thank me later, trust me.
Happy Theatre Going!
