Hello Beautiful People,
Brace yourself…you’re about to be starstrucked.
Well, kinda.
I’m talking about the latest book in Ruby Preston’s colorful and engaging tale about Scarlett Savoy – a savvy new producer on The Great White Way.
We first meet Scarlett in SHOWBIZ…Scarlett, a young producer working for a less than desirable boss, trying to nagivate her way on the Big Broadway…and ever the complex theatre tale, her story is continued in STAGED.
Now, so many pieces of the puzzle and loose ends are tied up in the third installment of this series – STARSTRUCK.
The fancy blurb on Dress Circle Publishing (and the book) will tell you thus:
With her Broadway opening night a few weeks away, Scarlett Savoy, a savvy young producer, is finally ready for her brand new musical to take center stage. Only two major things standing in her way – the beautiful but mercurial Hollywood diva she’s cast in the lead and the tall, dark and handsome familiar face from her past who flies back into her life. From high stakes rehearsal rooms, to paparazzi fueled scandals, to the star-studded red carpet of opening night, Starstruck is a page-turning journey behind the scenes of Broadway, all set against the glittering back drop of Manhattan. Will Scarlett make it to opening night before the curtain falls on her dreams?
I’ll tell you this:
As someone who aspires to achieve the producing grace of…let’s say, Daryl Roth, this book should be required reading for those who fancy themselves a producer. Or a director.
I mean, if we’re really getting down to the nitty gritty, it should be required for anyone who longs for a life in the theatre, especially Broadway.
Yes, I know it’s fictional. But, Ruby manages to captures the blood, sweat, tears, heart, hope and stress that goes into the daily life of a person living their Broadway dreams out in NYC. Sometimes, it’s glamous. Usually…it’s NOT. There’s ups and downs. There’s laughter and a lot of tears. There’s heart and passion – I mean, I like to think all art is driven by such forces, but the trick on Broadway is knowing how to pick oneself up after they fall.
It’s the failures and the roadbumps that make the most interesting stories…it’s the failures and the roadbumps that mkae the most compelling performances.
For theastre, it’s a test and testament of the human spirit.
The theatre doesn’t have the luxury of retakes – and STARSTRUCK, it is an inviting, illuminating and lovely tale of what it takes to cut your teeth on Broadway.
That’s all I’ll say.
Cause really, you HAVE to read it for yourself.
Live, Love, Learn,
Can’t wait to read
