A recent book recommendation was The Circle Maker, by Mark Patterson, so I decided to make it. my most recent audible selection.
(Side note – audible is my new favorite thing!)
Here’s the official book blurb –
Dream Big. Pray Hard. Think Long. According to Pastor Mark Batterson in his book, The Circle Maker, “Drawing prayer circles around our dreams isn’t just a mechanism whereby we accomplish great things for God. It’s a mechanism whereby God accomplishes great things in us.” Do you ever sense that there’s far more to prayer, and to God’s vision for your life, than what you’re experiencing? It’s time you learned from the legend of Honi the Circle Maker—a man bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and not budge from inside it until God answered his prayers for his people. What impossibly big dream is God calling you to draw a prayer circle around? Sharing inspiring stories from his own experiences as a circle maker, Mark Batterson will help you uncover your heart’s deepest desires and God-given dreams and unleash them through the kind of audacious prayer that God delights to answer.
Here’s my take –
First, I think you should go into this knowing it’s a Christian faith book. And while I don’t think you have to be a Christian to enjoy this, it’s probably something you should know going in. I find it fascinating to read about theology and differing perspectives, and perhaps it’s something we should all do more often. That aside, I found it, for the most part, to be inspiring. It’s inspiring to hear about a man who wants to help people. It’s inspiring to hear about stories of community and togetherness. It’s refreshing to think about how you can repay the blessings you’ve been given – no matter how small or large the gesture may be. So often we share stories of heartache and hurt, and this, at it’s core, is a story of hope.
