Immersive theatre is alive and well, and has officially hit the Great White Way.
National Geographic photographer Loren McIntyre got lost in a remote area of Brazil in 1969 – and now, in 2016, we’re able to be part of the starting encounter that changed his life.
We journey with Simon McBurney in The Encounter – a theatrical attack on your senses – and I mean that in the best way possible, as he tells us of Loren’s story, assuming a variety of different roles.
Yes, you read that right. This is a tale of the Amazon, and there’s only one man on the stage – one man, and a plethora of microphones.
As you enter the theatre, you’re asked to put an individual pair headphones on, as this is how the voices will get to you.
This is how Simon McBurney will speak to you.
This is how you’ll hear the conversations with his daughter, and with tribe leaders.
This is how you’ll be transported to the Amazon, and into with words and languages and people coming alive right before your very eyes.
Theatre educators – I urge you to bring your students to this show, as it’s a dazzling example of the magic of sound and lighting design.
It’s currently running at The Golden Theatre for a limited run. Tickets are available here.
