Hello Beautiful People,
In case you forgot, Tuck Everlasting was on our May Bookshelf. Tuck Everlasting is an absolute masterpiece. Full of magic & love & light & goodness.
Are you familiar with this classic children’s tale?
NO?!
Well, lets rectify that right. Now.
What would you do if you were presented with an opportunity to have eternal life? If someone gave you a glass of water and said, Drink this and you’ll live forever…would you drink it? Would you? Would you consider it a blessing? Or would it be a curse?
That, in essence, is the heart of Tuck Everlasting.
The Tuck Family drank from the eternal spring, and now they are blessed (or some would say cursed) with eternal life. They wander about, from town to town, as they cannot stay in one place for too long, for that would raise an eyebrow or two when they never age nor perish.
BUT…
Then Winnie comes along, and rocks the boat.
She is intrigued by Jesse Tuck, learns of the family secret, and immortality becomes a tangible thing for this young lady.
BUT…
Like all good stories, conflicts arise, and soon we are introduced to the Constable, who wants to steal/acquire the same immortality as the Tuck Family. What happens? Does the villan win? Does Winnie live forever?
Well, you’ll have to read to find out!
But, know this: This. Is. A. Beautiful. Book. Beautiful language, beautiful message, beautiful story. I cannot stress that enough. It makes its reader ponder the concepts and ideas of immortal life, of love, of loyalty, of family, and of friendship. Teachers, I would urge you to bring this into your classrooms. The journal prompt of, Is immorality a curse or a blessing?, will spark outstanding conversation, discussion, & higher level thinking. That I promise you.
AND, after you read the book, it’s always fun to make the comparision between the screen and page. Similiarites? Differences?
AND, I’m also pleased to say that this tremendous tale has found its way to the stage – for there is a musical in the works.
The creative ways to engage your classes and your own hearts & minds are endless when it comes to Tuck Everlasting.
It’s like the trifecta of arts – book + movie + musical.
Go get yourself, and your child, (or any youngster you know), a copy of this book. It’s pure perfection.
