“And that’s all show business is, really. Transitioning panics.” – p. 83
I loved Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) so when I saw she had a new book coming out, I immediately added it to my “To Read” list. Why Not Me? (one of our September picks) proved to be just as enjoyable as her first book.
Mindy’s commentary on weddings, girlfriends, hair styles, and terms of agreement had me laughing and (mostly) agreeing with her. She had one particular passage about the difference between a friend and a best friend that I found particularly powerful:
“It’s traumatizing to think that a best friend could become just a friend. That’s because there is virtually no difference between an acquaintance and a friend. But the gulf between a friend and a best friend is enormous and profound.” (p. 27)
In Why Not Me? Mindy walks the reader through the highs and the lows of the creative process. She was brutally honest about it’s trials and equally honest about the feeling of elation you get when the final product is spectacular.
If you like watching The Office or The Mindy Project, this book is for you. It’s an easy read, but you will find yourself laughing on almost every page. Who doesn’t love that?
