Hello Beautiful People,
Yesterday marked the closing performance of It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman at Encores!
It was lovely.
Starring Edward Watts as The Man of Steel, Jenny Powers as Lois Lane, Will Swenson as Max Mencken, Alli Mauzey as Sydney, David Pittu as Dr. Abner Sedgwick, Adam Monley as Jim Morgan, James Saito as Father Ling, and Craig Henningsen, Suo Lio, Jason Ng, and Scott Weber as The Flying Lings, and Wendi Bergamini, Ward Billeisen, Sam Bolen, Stephen Carrasco, Hannah Florence, Sara Jean Ford, Miles Johnson, Max Kumangai, Samanta Massell, Skye Mattox, Kenita R. Miller, Michael Mindlin, Jessica Lea Patty, David Scott Purdy, Manuel Stark, Charlie Williams, Kirsten Wyatt, and Samantha Zack.
This was delightful. It was pure, beautiful, wonderful entertainment.
A comic strip came alive on the stage before us for two and half hours (roughly), and we laughed, we giggled, we checked our problems and stresses at the door and enjoyed the entertainment.
The entire production, campy as it may be, was just blissful entertainment, and unapologetic camp – and it was great. Because you know what? Sometimes, everyone could use a little camp.
If there is an actor out there who could embody everything that Superman is, well, no better choice than Edward Watts. He. Was. Superman. And Clark Kent.
Jenny Powers was a Perfect Lois Lane.
Will Swenson was a delight. His antics, his presence, his vocals…theatrical bliss.
Alli Mauzey was a riot. She had us laughing & giggling till our stomachs hurt, as did David Pittu.
It was a wonderful night of musical theater. During intermission, in the ladies room, the woman waiting behind me in line commented to her friend, “The voices! They just are so wonderful, they seem so much bigger than this production…like they should be on Broadway.”
Naturally, I couldn’t resist speaking up, as I told her, “they sound wonderful because they are wonderful, and they sound like they should be on Broadway ay because many of them have, and if they haven’t, they will be.”
To the cast & crew & creative team of It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman at ENCORES! – Bravo. Y’all were phenomenal.
