Hello Beautiful People,
This amazing group of women came to my attention through one of its members, Kristin. I have known this woman since before we were born. We joke that we are friends since “the womb”, but, it’s actually true. Our fathers worked together, and our mothers were pregnant at the same time. We were born one day apart. I have never met someone as good & true & honest & loving as Kristin. She is a gem of a human being. She has a heart of gold. If the world had more people like her in it, well, I know that we’d all be ok.
The Caz Girls Conquer 365 Random Acts of Kindness is so fitting with her personality, and I know that the passion she has for goodness & kindness will give this movement the momentum and longevity it needs to withstand time.
TWT: Have you been the recipient of a Random Act of Kindness? If so, what was it?
KB: All of the time! Seriously blessed. Every time I get a phone call or text message because a friend saw something that reminded them of me, I get all giddy!
TWT: The 365 Random Acts of Kindness is spreading like wildfire. Do you foresee this project extending beyond 2013?
KB: I absolutely, one hundred percent do! I truly feel as though people are finally seeing that there is still ‘good in the world.’ It sounds somewhat cliché; though it is proven each time someone receives a Random Act of Kindness. With the current state of the country and the world, it is often the smallest things that bring the biggest smiles, and we need more big smiles.
TWT: Here at The Write Teacher(s), many of us work with “at-risk” youth. These students are recovering drug addicts; struggling drug addicts, teenage parents, and almost all of them come from broken homes. The struggles, demons, and anger that our students face is often a hindrance to their progress in school and life in general. Do you have any words of wisdom to offer these students?
KB: It can always be worse. You have to be happy for life, for second and third chances. Be grateful. I know saying it or writing it is much easier, but I do believe it is important to always look for the silver lining, the sunrises and the sunsets.
TWT: In today’s economy, arts programs in schools are being cut. What reasons would you give a politician for preserving the arts?
KB: If you cut the arts, cut the sports, turn the lights off on Broadway; pack up all of the museums and the Halls of Fame. Let us not forget that the ‘arts’ are where some people choose to spend their money, which, if I’m not mistaken, helps the economy. Why cut something that makes people happy, something that has a positive impact on humanity? People need more positive ways to express themselves!
TWT: Here at The Write Teacher(s), we believe that art drives life, and theatre transforms lives. Would you agree or disagree with those statements? Why?
KB: Agree! Partly answered above!
TWT: Just for fun, what’s your favorite movie, singer/band, play, and book?
KB: Movie: So many, but I’ll say Pretty Woman. I basically know it by heart. Singer/Band: Seriously LOVING Zac Brown Band at the moment, Kenny Chesney too! Play: Loved me some RENT, maybe a little Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. Book: Anything Emily Griffin (Something Borrowed, Something Blue…), 50 Shades Series! I’m not a huge reader – I’m very picky!
TWT: Who is/was your greatest teacher?
KB: It’s impossible to name just one… Professor Varisco, Katie O’, and Professor Louis, three fabulous women who have taught me so much about myself, the world, and most of all, how to give back. I could go on for days…
Thank you, Kristin!
