I spent last night at Broadway’s Supper Club, aka, Feinstein’s/54 Below.
Surprised? I didn’t think so.
Alas, I digress.
Yesterday, I went to see Swipe Right/Swipe Left: A Humiliating and Empowering Return to Dating (with Hannah and Tessa).
Starring Hannah Kloepfer and Tessa Slovis, this cabaret act centers around the digital age of dating. They regale their audience with horrible and humiliating stories of Tinder and Coffee Meets Bagel, and what it’s like to date in 2016. They’ll make you laugh, they’ll make you smile, and absolutely make you reassess the necessity of any dating profile.
The show was peppered songs from the Golden Age of Broadway, selections from some of the most badass songstresses of our time (Patti Smith, Lauren Pritchard, Jeanine Tesori, the Dixie Chicks, among others), and original compositions by Nat Zegree.
It was, in a word, delightful.
In a word that hold so much sadness, it’s refreshing to go to the theatre and forget your troubles for a bit – and perhaps even commiserate with the woes of someone else, someone like you.
Hannah and Tessa are like…the taller, musical theatre version of Ilana and Abbi. (Hey Broad City, these ladies would be great in helping you craft a musical theatre episode…just sayin’.)
What’s next for Swipe Right/Swipe Left?
Time can only tell, but it’s bound to be something great.
Till then keep in touch with the ladies of the hour on their Facebook Page.
