Hello Beautiful People,
When I was in first grade, I asked Santa for a Hover Board for Christmas.
Sadly, I never got my beloved board…but, the entire Back to the Future Series will always have a special place in my heart, which is why I geeked out when thewriteteachers.com was asked to attend BACK TO THE FUTURE IN CONCERT at Radio City.
Christopher Lloyd, (Emmett “Doc” Brown) joined James Tolkan (Mr. Strickland), composer Alan Silvestri, writer/producer Bob Gale, onstage at the start of the concert, and the excitement in the room was just…palpable.
The special 30th anniversary HD screening was held at renowned Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor David Newman, performed Silvestri’s entire original score live in sync with the film, including 20 minutes of brand new music that Silvestri added for this special live concert production.
I have seen Back to the Future more times than I can count. There’s something timeless about that movie, it never really gets old, but rather it feels like catching up with an old friend that you haven’t seen in quite some time. A story where the underdog saves the day…well, that’s timeless. Treasured. Something to be celebrated.
I see a lot of theatre. Films. Concerts. Art. It’s part of the job.
But this…well, never have I experienced something quite like it. For one thing, it takes movie watching to a whole different level. It becomes multidimensional. Layered. You feel completely engrossed in the story.
Additionally, the appreciation you gain for composers of movie scores grows tremendously. Seeing the orchestra live makes you realize how important the score of a movie is, for the sound fills the room and knocks you off your feet. In the best way possible, of course.
