Hello Beautiful People,
When I was five, I went to see The Secret Garden.
I wore a navy blue dress, with a white sailor collar.
My mom put my hair in a french braid.
And, as much as I love my little brother, my parents had left him with my grandparents.
I don’t know when I was bit by the bug, but perhaps it was the moment went the house lights went out, when that first note was played, when the lights came up, or maybe, just maybe, when Daisy Eagan made her entrance.
For here was this girl, not much older than me…acting. Singing. ON BROADWAY.
How cool was THAT!?
From that night on, The Secret Garden has always had a special place in my heart. You could say it’s my favorite show.
And so, let’s fastforward all these years, to this week. Because, Daisy is in DUETS with The Write Teacher(s) at 54 Below, and I can’t really eloquently verbalize what that means to me.
At all, really.
Some writer, huh?
But as we rehearsed the BRILLIANT number that she’s singing with Jessica Mortellaro, (written by the ever clever, ever gracious, and ever wonderful, Rob Rokicki), I just felt like life had come full circle. For there I was, with Monty, (Daisy’s son), on my hip, in the Penthouse studios of Shetler, listening to two of my favorite people sing a song by one of my dearest friends.
I mean, does it get much better than that?
I hope to see you at the show on Friday. And, if I don’t get a chance to see you afterwards, I hope to see you at Daisy’s show on SUNDAY, also at 54 Below. I’ll buy ya a drink!
