Hello Beautiful People!
Our first Q&A in the Beach Book Bonanza Series is with the lovely, the talented, the ever so humble, Caroline Leavitt.
TWT: Where did you come up with the inspiration for Is This Tomorrow?
CL: I grew up an outcast, as part of the only Jewish family on a Christian block in the 1960s, and I pushed it back an era into the 50s to explore how an outsider can (or can’t) find community.
TWT: What’s your favorite summer reading spot?
CL: In our air-conditioned living room! I’m not really an outdoor girl unless it’s the fall or the spring. I wilt in the heat and tend to want to read books set in the winter!
TWT: What’s the fondest memory of your summer vacation during your high school years?
Not having to go to the Cape with my parents, but being able to stay at home and hang out with my boyfriend in the abandoned sky slope in Waltham.
TWT: How would you suggest parents get their children engaged in reading over the summer?
CL: Read yourself. Let your kids see you loving reading and they will follow. And don’t make judgements about anything your kids read–as long as they are reading, that is wonderful!
TWT: Just for fun, what’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
CL: Dark Chocolate!
