I have the awesome opportunity this month to vacation in Trinidad for a few weeks. I am looking forward to exploring the theatrical roots of my culture especially The Trinidad Theatre Workshop. This week I was thinking about theatres that I would like to visit and write about this year. So this month’s column is more a wish list.
Here it is:
- I read a great article in The Guardian about The Bristol Old Vic. The theatre is 250 years making it the oldest theatre in the United Kingdom. That’s a plethora of writers, actors, directors, and stagehands within one space. If those walls could talk…
- Burning Coal Theatre has fascinated me for a few years. I have visited the outside of theatre as I’ve been in Raleigh between their seasons. They produce “literate, visceral, affecting theatre that is experienced, not simply seen” new works. That’s the type of theatre that excites me so I will better plan for this year’s visit.
- So I have no reason to have not been to a theatre in my own backyard but alas, I haven’t been to Broadhollow. They are a theatre located on Long Island that produce big shows like Cats, Inherit the Wind, Oklahoma, etc. They are currently producing Dreamgirls. Hopefully I can see that before it closes.
- The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is always on my list as it’s the mother of all fringe festivals. Maybe I’ll get to Scotland this summer if I am not involved in the New York International Festival this summer.
- The Berkshires are calling my name. Museums, visual art and THEATRE! The website has a wishlist. That just shows that if you miss it the first time, you can remind yourself what to do next time you visit.
What’s on your wish list for 2016?
