BABA & Me is set to play The Green Room 42 – this Friday, September 8th at 8PM.
From recent Tisch graduate Robert D. Jackson comes a one man show combining elements of hip-hop, theatrical performance and of course, comedy. BABA & ME chronicles Jackson’s life as a black artist in the Third Ward of Houston, TX. BABA & ME: A Young Man in Search of His Father permits an audience to join Jackson on his 24th birthday as he searches for the meaning of paternity, journey, and purpose.
BABA & ME is dedicated to his father, Robert Dean Jackson, who died on January 11th, 1999 – a victim of gun violence. This year, on September 24th, 2017, he would have been 42.
From stories about losing his father as a young biracial boy to his first love during adolescence and his experiences with racism, Jackson unearths his life from his roots to highlighting his travels and recent success! The evening is sponsored by Jackson’s nonprofit organization, TORCH, and a portion all profits raised will go in support of those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
On his father’s birthday this year, Jackson had plans to reprise his performance in Houston. As the performance space has since flooded, TORCH co-Founder Dimitri J. Moise (Book of Mormon, Joan of Arc, Superhero) has dedicated a Facebook campaign to show support. Proceeds to the campaign will be going to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. For every dollar raised, Facebook will match.
