Gerard Alessandrini, the Tony Award winning creator of Forbidden Broadway, will debut FORBIDDEN BROADWAY SALUTES CAROL CHANNING, at Feinstein’s/54 Below on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019, at 7:00pm in a concert produced by Mr. Alessandrini and Robert W. Schneider.
FORBIDDEN BROADWAY SALUTES CAROL CHANNING will be a hysterically funny yet incredibly moving tribute to The Late Great Star and satirical chanteuse who amused millions around the world for generations. More than any other star spoofed by Forbidden Broadway, Carol Channing was poked, prodded and punctured by Forbidden’s merrier troupe of vengeful young gypsies. And Carol loved every minute of it!
There will be a sprinkling of a few classic Forbidden Broadway Diva numbers like Ethel Merman, Mary Martin, Chita Rivera and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Numbers will also include a recreation of Channing’s own take off on Marlene Dietrich, the scathing number that prompted Marlene herself to storm out of the theater during Carol’s performance.
Also, Forbidden Broadway’snewest Carol Channing number, “The Spirit of Channing,” will be premiered: a hysterically bizarre and surrealistic number where Carol Channing’s Ghost roams around Broadway today dropping in and joining in on current shows like Hamilton, Anastasiaand Dear Even Hansen.
Christine Pedi(Sirius XM, Newsical), Michael West (The Door To Door Carol Channing)and Gerard Alessandrini, along with several surprise guests, will perform all the Carol Channing spoofs ever performed in Forbidden Broadway.
Alessandrini, who is also directing, said, “It’s divinely fitting that Forbidden Broadway, the show that ran over 30 years off Broadway presenting over 25 editions, should salute the magical Lady who performed “Hello, Dolly!” around the world for over 35 years.”
