Starting on Sunday, January 6th, The Neo-Political Cowgirls will present their free workshop for girls ages 6-106. From 2:00-4:00 every Sunday in January, girls, and women from all walks of life are welcome to meet in the Boots Lamb room at Guild Hall to join us in journaling, holding conversations, and creating art based on a theme. Professional artists from the community guest teach each week; Patricia Maurides (January 6th) Darlene Charneco (January 13th) Josephine Smith (January 20th) and Abigail Vogel (January 27th) are our Teaching Artists for 2019.
January Girls was launched in 2016 to create a space where immigrants and at-risk girls could find community, friendship, and support self-expression. Now entering its 3rd incarnation, the program has expanded to include all ages to open the door for recognition of inter-generational support and allyship.
Themes to be dived into are Connecting Through the Senses, Creating Family, Creating a Tree of Life, and Nature is Home. Photography, mixed media, and Shinnecock Nation cultural art will be among the artistic explorations.
Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to kindly RSVP to npcowgirls@gmail.com to allow for proper space and materials.
This year’s artists were curated by local artist Gabriel Raacke, an advisor on the Neo-Political Cowgirls’ board of directors. For inquiries please call Kate Mueth at 631-748-8307.
