Hello Beautiful People,
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery.
That’s really just the tip of the monumental campaign that is V-DAY, and you can find out more information about this magnificent cause by visiting vday.org.
This is a cause that’s near and dear to my heart, and so, this Valentine’s Day season, I wanted to do something.
I wanted to take action.
And so, LOVE SONGS at 54 Below was born. LOVE SONGS at 54 Below is scheduled for February 10, 2014 at 54 Below, 11:30 PM.
The concert will feature “love songs” written by new musical theater composers Will Buck, Lauren Marcus, Ryan Scott Oliver, Drew Overcash, Alexander Sage Oyen, Georgia Stitt, and Zoe Sarnak. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the VDAY Foundation.
The cast of LOVE SONGS features Alex Brightman (Big Fish), Max Crumm, (Grease) Ariana DeBose (Motown), Joanna Howard (Off Broadway’s Peter and the Starcatcher), Siri Howard (Sweeny Todd at New York Philarmonic), Lauren Marcus , Jessica Mortellaro , Taylor Noble (Off-Broadway’s A Lasting Impression) , Krista Pioppi (Spring Awakening national tour), Max Quinlan (Les Miserables) Krysta Rodriguez (First Date) Taylor Sorice , Stephanie Turci , Alan Wiggins (Beautiful), and Natalie Weiss (Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Tour).
I could gush for days about this. I could gush, and type, and talk, and preach. I could tell you how proud I am to be producing and directing this evening. I could tell you how amazing the entire cast is, how truly passionate wonderful my music director, Benjamin Rauhala is, how unbelievably thrilling it is to be doing a show at a venue with as much character and energy like 54 Below.
I could tell you about my own personal attachment to the cause….
I could tell you about stories of violence that have happened to one too many women that I know….
I could tell you about the women I know, who have their hearts rooted to this movement, rooted in something so deep and strong, something that I am not able to adequately express in print or confine to a phrase…for it is bigger than words. It is a feeling. It is, without a doubt, a movement. A call to action, a call to rise UP.
So instead, I’ll tell you this – come see this concert.
Tickets are $15, and there is a two alcoholic drink minimum OR $20 food & beverage minimum. For more information and tickets, call (646) 476-3551 or visit 54Below.com.
See you at the show…at 54 Below!
