Hello Beautiful People,
Over the summer I had an idea for a concert.. to use the songs of some of the musical theater writers that I’ve grown to admire and love as colleagues and friends, and have current college students (or recent graduates) studying theater perform the songs. The twist would be to create original monologues with the songs, allowing the performers to really sink their teeth into the story of the song. I wanted to bridge the worlds of arts education and professional theater, I wanted to give young artists a change to make somewhat of a mark on NYC, and I wanted to give them something to sink their teeth into, and an opportunity to work with some of the greatest minds in new musical theater. And so, Lucky Disaster was born.
I’m absolutely thrilled to say that this concert is now going to be a reality THIS Sunday, (September 29th), at four o’clock in the afternoon at Don’t Tell Mama in NYC. The show will feature selected songs of two composers, colleagues, and friends that I am humbled to know – Drew Gasparini (SMASH) and Zoe Sarnak (A Lasting Impression). The cast will also perform original monologues that have been inspired by the selected songs.
The cast of Lucky Disaster features students from both musical theater and acting college programs – Nic Casaula (NYU Steinhardt), Jesse James Keitel (PACE), Taylor Sorice (Marymount Manhattan), and Stephanie Turci (Rutgers).
It’s going to be a great show, and I am over the moon excited to share it with you all.
But, and I can’t stress this enough, I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of my dear friends, Drew and Zoe, and the dedication of this amazing cast – so thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you all.
Don’t Tell Mama is located at 343 W46th Street, tickets are $20, and please note that there is a two drink cash minimum. I hope to see you all Sunday!
