A Children’s Nightmare
in gleeful, physical, doggerel verse.
Intruders stalk the darkness
round a family’s lonesome hut.
Soon they all may die.

For accomplished painter, filmmaker, and writer Peter Weiss,
Night with Guests was the turning point from his not-so-successful
debut as realistic playwright into being the guy who wrote Marat/Sade.
Drawing on Kabuki, Punch & Judy, and country fair performance,
Weiss also called this little play a morität – a grisly tale of murder,
like those sung by German street performers since the 15th Century.
