Rising in Love premieres as a staged concert reading, presented by the Emerging Artists Theatre’s New Works Series at the Tada Theatre on Sunday, March 10 at 2pm! There will be an audience talk back with the cast and creative team directly following the performance.
Rising in Love is the modern day coming-of-age story about engaged interracial Jewish couple Rosie and Scott, their fears and anxieties surrounding their upcoming marriage, and the friends and family who help them learn what it takes to rise in love.
If you combined Cole Porter, The Fantasticks, and Avenue Q, you would get this playful and lovable new musical with beautifully lyrical and singable music that touches on the intersection of Black and Jewish identity, growth, compromise, relationships, communication, and what it means to grow up and find love in 2019.
Created and produced by Rory Michelle Sullivan, who wrote lyrics and book with dramaturgy by Anna Jastrzembski. Music by Rory Michelle Sullivan, Moira Lo Bianco, and Jonathan Shanes. Megan Minutillo directs, and Nissa Kahle (Chicago, Great Comet) music directs and plays piano. Cast features Paula Shtein, Marques Hollie, Loni Ackerman (Evita, Cats), Zachary Francis Stewart, Belén Moyano, Simone Zamore, and Hannah Kloepfer. Noah Hadland on drums and percussion. Yamada Yoshiki on bass.
Reading coincides with concept album release. Concept album features an 11-piece orchestra and the up-and-coming Madkoi Quartet, and was mastered by the same studio as An American in Paris and Come From Away. Limited run copies available at reading.
