A blurb about Rob + the show:
Rob Rokicki is a storyteller that wears many hats. An award-winning songwriter and performer, Rob writes musicals and songs described by Broadway Spotted as “a soulful swirl of rock and comedy…urgent songs about neurotic girls, wild odes to ape-like creatures, and so much more.” Fred Ebb winner Adam Gwon says, “Rob’s songs live at that perfect intersection of musical theater and radio rock — these are characters that get you in the gut, and that you want to listen to over and over again.”
Originally from Colorado, Rob is a grad of the University of Michigan, and cut his teeth as a performer after moving to NYC— from National Tours, to performing at Carnegie Hall, to playing and singing in bands and opening for the likes of LeAnn Rimes with country singer Harold Allen. Rob also honed his writing chops in the Tony Award-winning BMI musical theatre writing workshop and has since written several shows and projects.
With collaborator Michael Ruby, Rob wrote Love, NY, which was presented at New World Stages, Oklahoma University, and DC Fringe, and won the 2009 American Harmony Award. Their show Strange Tails was presented at Ars Nova and swept the 2011 West Village Musical Theater Festival (Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book). Other work together includes Relativity (Theatre Row) and 20 to Life (American University).
Separately, Rob is the composer/lyricist for the shows Samson’s Fire (The Cell Theater) and Martha & ME (NY Fringe). This past year, Rob scored the movie Gingerbread House for the NY Film Academy, and a new television pilot theme. Broadway performers have sung his songs throughout New York and benefits across the country. Rob is currently working on the graphic novel/rock album Monstersongs and is working with playwright Joe Tracz on adapting the first book in the wildly popular Percy Jackson series, The Lightning Thief.
Rob is thrilled to bring incredible musicians and performers including special guests Megan Hilty (star of NBC’s Smash), Julia Murney (Drama Desk Nominee) and Joe Iconis (multiple award-winning composer) to celebrate a ton of new material, along with some favorites from his album, “I’m Ready” which was released in late 2012 on Great White Wax records. Other performers include: Brian Gallagher (Jekyll & Hyde), Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening), Katrina Rose Dideriksen (Rent), Nick Dalton (Legally Blonde), Amanda Flynn (Wicked), Lauren Marcus (The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks), Erica Swindell (Once), Molly Hager (Fat Camp), Zach Jones (One Man, Two Guvnors), Mike Rosengarten, Seth Eliser, Micah Burgess, Satchel Jones and more! www.robertrokicki.com
