THE ACTORS’ TEMPLE is pleased to announce the second program in 2015-2016 of Hot Nights @ A Cool Shul, THE EPICHORUS. The performance will be Monday, December 14th at 7:30 pmin the Sanctuary at The Actors’ Temple (339 West 47th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenue).
The Epichorus, created by Rabbi Zach Fredman, is an ensemble blending the sounds of Judeo-Arabic retro-folk. They play original music, interspersed with repertoire from 1960’s Egypt, the religious songs in world music, returning listeners to the ecstatic stages of the desert, the harem and the marketplaces of the Middle East. Their debut album One Bead was released on March 5th, 2013.
The Actors’ Temple is committed to promoting cultural understanding and peace. Music offers a unique means to become familiar with the unfamiliar. The music of The Epichorus – complex and heady, rich with influences from across the Middle East – transports the audience across the boundaries of space and time, bridging this cultural distance.
HOT NIGHTS @ A COOL SHUL is a new Monday night series that seeks to stimulate dialogue about American and global Jewish culture through engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking films, play readings, cabaret acts, musical performances, and panel discussions. Produced by Joan Finkelstein and Carol Ostrow.
