Death takes a humorous turn in The Wrong Box, The Musical. A mysterious corpse is knocking about Victorian England, and two unscrupulous cousins are desperately trying to find it, except when they’re desperately trying to lose it! It’s a winner takes all race for the family inheritance laced with mayhem, deception, and twists along the way.
Frank Vlastnik* completes casting. His credits include Broadway’s Sweet Smell of Success, Big, and A Year with Frog and Toad. Other credits include I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, and Ballad of Little Pinks.
The Wrong Box is a musical comic farce, adapted by Kit Goldstein Grant from the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson and Lloyd Osbourne. It will be presented at The National Opera Center (330 7th Avenue between 28th and 29th street) on Monday October 3, 2016.
The staged reading will be directed by Christopher Hlinka, with music direction by Matthew Bennis. The cast also features Joe Harkins (Ragtime on Ellis Island), Raul Hernandez, Melissa Rose Hirsch (The Bad Years), Andrew Holder, Robin Cameron Lounsbury*, Evan Mayer (Annie National Tour), Angelo McDonough, Christopher Michaels, Chris Collins-Pisano, Daniel Plimpton* (The Book Of Mormon First National Tour), Adrian Rifat, Jordan Silver, Morgan Smith (Broadway’s The Sound of Music), and Kasey Yeargain.
The Wrong Box was previously produced at Union College in Schenectady, NY, and was a finalist for London’s Burbage Productions New Writing Prize. Excerpts from the show have been featured in the Musical Theatre Factory’s 4X15 series, and at The Playground Experiment. The staged reading is led by producing team, Sahar Helmy and Melissa Nally.
