Dixon Place’s (Ellie Covan, Founding & Artistic Director) commission tiger tiger (on the nature of violence) written and directed by playwright Jessica Almasy, will have its world premiere on Friday, November 6th at 7:30 PM. The music is composed by Dan Veksler in collaboration with Ms. Almasy. tiger tiger (on the nature of violence) will play six performances only –November 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st at 7:30PM, at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street). In tiger tiger (on the nature of violence), three boys walk into a zoo in San Francisco, two walk out in handcuffs & the world is turned upside down when a tiger is on the loose & the media wants an answer. This American pastoral is not appropriate for children.
Featured in the cast are Matt Baguth, Kate Benson, Jill Frutkin, Fernando Gonzalez, Hannah Heller, Hannah Kallenbach, David Neal Levin, Teri Madonna, Eliana Mullins, Christopher Nunez, Nazli Sarpkaya, and Brendan Titley.
Sets are designed by Christopher Heilman, with costumes designed by Karen Boyer, lighting designed by Megan Lang and sound designed by Lawrence Schober. John Del Gaudio is the producer and Ann Marie Dorr is the production manager.
JESSICA ALMASY is a cofounding member of the TEAM, (RoosevElvis, Architecting), and a graduate of the Brooklyn College Playwriting program with Mac Wellman and Erin Courtney. She is the recipient of two Audie Awards, a Golden Voice, and several Golden Earphones for her extensive work as an audiobook narrator. As a NY theatre actress Jessica is dedicated to the development of new work, and has premiered Toshiki Okada’s Enjoy (dir. Dan Rothenberg), Bess Wohl’s Small Mouth Sounds (Ars Nova, dir. Rachel Chavkin), HarunaLee’s War lesbian (Dixon Place), and Kate Benson’s A Beautiful Day in November on the Banks of the Greatest of the Great Lakes (dir. LeeSunday Evans, New Georges / Women’s Project, Dixon Place). Notable roles with the TEAM include Hamlet, Richard Nixon, Margaret Mitchell, an amnesiac plane crash survivor, and 50 minutes of a woman named Alice – on a treadmill, running. Jessica dabbles in film, commercials, and television. BFA, NYU. tiger tiger is her directorial debut.
This Dixon Place commission is made possible w/public funds from NYS Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo & the NYS Legislature, NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and private funds from the Peg Santvoord Foundation & the Jerome Foundation.

Ellie Covan, founding director, was a recipient of a Bessie, a New York Dance and Performance Award and a Bax10 Award for her service to the community. Dixon Place received two Village Voice Obie Awards, and an Edwin Booth Award for Excellence in Theater.
