After playing Feinstein’s/54 Below and The Duplex, “Movies, Musicals, and Me: An Evening With Me, Halpert Evans” has found a temporary home. Beginning January 31st, the riotous cabaret spoof has been given a monthly slot at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Hell’s Kitchen.
“Movies, Musicals, and Me” is a loving skewering of Broadway’s adaption obsession that asks the question: “what if every movie had a musical adaptation?”. The cabaret is a career retrospective of Broadway star– nay, legend– Halpert Evans (played by Al Fallick). He and his loyal accompanist, Courtney (Clark Baxtresser), perform for you songs parodies such as “Find Sarah Connor”, from Jason Robert Brown’s THE TERMINATOR: THE MUSICAL, and “By The Waterfall”, which Halpert explains is “The only song from A QUIET PLACE: THE MUSICAL.”
For two years, the show has delighted audiences in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. A webseries by YouTube’s STARKID Productions (the group famous for catapulting Darren Criss to stardom with A VERY POTTER MUSICAL), has received over 300k views. The show began taking off, however, when in October, the writers added duets to perform with invited special guests. Since then, “Movies, Musicals, and Me” was booked at Feinstein’s/54 Below, before now receiving a coveted monthly slot at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater Hell’s Kitchen.
Special guests for the first UCBT Hell’s Kitchen performance include Broadway rising stars Isabelle McCalla (THE PROM), Bobby Conte Thornton (A BRONX TALE), and Dorcas Leung (MISS SAIGON, HAMILTON), as well as comedian Larry Owens (Caveat’s DECOLONIZE YOUR MIND). Previous special guests have included Tony Nominee Ashley Park (MEAN GIRLS), AJ Holmes (THE BOOK OF MORMON), and Natalie Walker (ALICE BY HEART). The show’s book, music, and lyrics are written by Al Fallick, Clark Baxtresser, and Pierce Siebers.
“Movies, Musicals, and Me: An Evening with Me, Halpert Evans” begins its monthly residency at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater Hell’s Kitchen (555 W. 42nd St.) on January 31st at 9:30pm. Tickets are $9. Tickets and information are available at www.MoviesMusicalsAndMe.com, and https://hellskitchen.
