Hello Beautiful People,
A note from our founder:
Last night, I had the honor & pleasure of going to see Daisy Eagan in her show, F@$k Off. I Love You, at the Birdland Jazz Club in New York City.
It. Was. Awesome.
I was starstruck.
I felt like I was five years old again.
Yes, you read that right. Five. Years. Old.
Let me backtrack, because, if it isn’t obvious already, this show is NOT for five year olds. Let me repeat that again, Not. For. Five. Year. Olds. Fantastic? Yes. PG? No.
But, I first met Daisy when I was five. She played Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden on Broadway. This was back in…’91?
TWENTY TWO YEARS AGO. Ick, I feel old.
It was the first Broadway show I ever saw. Needless to say, it made an impact.
Tonight, Daisy joked about her time on Broadway, how that was her “peak”. For those of you who do not know, Daisy is the youngest actress to ever win a Tony Award, it’s the Oscar of Broadway, it’s an accomplishment that many people never achieve.
She may not have won a Tony since, but, she’s still got it. Her show tonight was full of soul & life & humor & wit. There were moments of humor & sadness, love & light. And of course, dazzling vocal stylings.
Daisy has the type of heart and humor and humble nature that is just…rare nowadays.
To this day, The Secret Garden is one of my favorite shows. I play it, on repeat, when I need a sense of clarity. I play it, on repeat, in times of stress or confusion or sadness. I know the words to the entire book by heart. I believe thatmusic is the spice of life, and that it has the ability to heal wounds that the rest of the world cannot see. Daisy’s vocal talents had the ability to do that back in 1991, and they still do today.
On a different note, I’m happy to say that I was in the audience when she announced publicly that she will be expecting a little bundle of joy come May!
Yes, she’s pregnant.
Oodles of congratulations, you’ll be a wonderful mother!
Daisy was so gracious enough to participate in our Actors & Actresses Q&A Series here at The Write Teacher(s). Look for her interview in January of 2013!
