Hello Beautiful People,
As many of you are enjoying this holiday…I hope you stop for a minute and think about the man that we are honoring. I hope you stop and think of his work. His life. His dream.
See, every year I tend to write a post about Dr. King around this time, and my heart gets heavy.
…because we’re still not listening to one another.
…because we still love to draw lines in the sand.
…because we still look to place blame and hate.
…because we have yet to learn how to love one another as brothers and sisters.
And, call me crazy, I don’t think that’s what this great man would’ve wanted. I don’t think that’s what he would’ve wanted at all.
So, my fellow teachers, as you venture back to your classrooms tomorrow, I hope you take a bit of time out of your day to talk about this great man. To explain to them what his dream was – and urge your students to work together – regardless of the physicalities that make them different.
Because really, when you think about it, we all have blood running through our veins. We all shed the same tears. We all need to breathe the same air.
We’re all people, just trying to make it in the crazy world.
And perhaps if we held onto the pearls of wisdom that Dr. King has left us, well, perhaps the world wouldn’t be that crazy anymore. Perhaps there’d be less hate.
“Hate cannot drive out hate – only love can do that.” – Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.
