DTLA Film Festival announced today that its 9th annual edition will be held Sept. 21-30, 2017 in venues throughout burgeoning downtown Los Angeles, including Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE.
Known for its progressive programming and emphasis on diversity, the festival will present more than 100 films of all genres, as well as related events including live music performances, seminars and interactive activities. The festival is the largest film-related event in the City’s historic center.
“DTLA, or downtown Los Angeles, is in the midst of its biggest building boom in 100 years, and we’re excited to be in the mix. Now in our 9th year, we feel that DTLA and the DTLA Film Festival have grown up together, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in 2017,” said Festival Director Greg Greg Ptacek.
The 2016 DTLA Film Festival was the recipient of the prestigious Downtowners of Distinction Award.
As one of the premier showcases for independent cinema in the Entertainment Capital of the World, DTLA Film Festival attracts submissions from across the United States and around the world. Over the years the festival has been a harbinger of new trends, and was the first all-genre film festival to mandate that 50% of its film be by women directors. It also introduced the concept of crowd-sourced screenings on a film festival platform.
Heading up the festival’s content this year will be Karolyne Sosa, a longtime member of the festival’s governing board and an independent film producer. “We’ll be introducing several new concepts to this year’s programming, including a curated series devoted to cinematic television and emerging technology content. However, we will continue with the mission that is at the core our organization – to reflect the unique cultural diversity of DTLA and it surrounding communities.”
