Virginia Theatre Association (VTA), the nation’s largest state theatre association, will host a Fine Arts Leadership Conference in Lynchburg, Virginia, on May 24, 2016, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Warehouse Theatre, Academy Center for the Arts, 600 Main Street, in Lynchburg. The Conference is presented with the support of Opportunity Lynchburg, the City of Lynchburg’s Office of Economic Development.
The day-long event, presented by Virginia Department of Education, will provide professional development for public education fine arts leaders from every district in Virginia, to improve and strengthen programs in the arts. This conference will focus on vision, leadership, emerging programs, and strategies for success.
Conference sessions will cover all disciplines of the Fine Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual). Session speakers include Dr. Steven R. Staples, superintendent of public instruction, Virginia Department of Education; Geoffrey Kershner, Executive Director, Academy Center of the Arts and founder, Endstation Theatre Company, Lynchburg, Virginia; and Jeff Poulin, Americans for the Arts, Washington, D.C. Session speakers will present information on a number of critical fine arts educational issues, including community involvement and partnerships, educational policy, fine arts integration, and effective advocacy.
