Hello Friends!
There has been some awesome TV shows airing lately, and some great finales have been happening over the past couple of weeks.
For those of you who have been keeping up with the AMC hit series Breaking Bad, it has been an emotional couple of weeks. Last week’s episode, “Ozymandias” was so jarring it had people in fits. I know my roommates and I had cried at least three times while watching it in our rooms separately.
ALL THE EMOTIONS. ALL THE FEELINGS.
Breaking Bad has received eleven nominations and five wins for an Emmy Award. Among those nominations, three of them went to Bryan Cranston, and two were for Aaron Paul’s performances. In addition to all of that recognition, the show has had six nominations for a SAG Award, and Cranston took home a win for his truly unbelievable performance. The show is gritty, honest, and twisted, digging deep at concepts like guilt, love for family, and revenge.
It’s difficult to find words to describe what happened in the last episode, especially for those of you who have not started watching this thriller yet. But here are five reasons (of many) to watch Breaking Bad:
1) The cinematography is to die for. Now, I am no film major. I couldn’t tell you the difference between a good looking shot and a bad one. But THESE SHOTS are so incredibly beautiful my jaw is always wide open in awe. The flashbacks (especially in this last episode, am I right?) and when the camera pans to a wide view (again in this last episode… like what?) are incredibly well thought out, artful, and detailed. Well done, Breaking Bad creative team, well done.
2) The other half of what goes on the screen is critically acclaimed: the acting. Bryan Cranston (Walter White), Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman), Anna Gunn (Skyler White) and Dean Norris (Hank Schrader), (just to name a few), are all dedicated and committed. Their smiles, fits of anger, and tears are truthful and heart wrenching. Often this show is up for best TV ensemble, because they deserve ALL THE AWARDS.
3) It’s honest and real. Not one moment seems untruthful in terms of actor’s motivations or the depiction of any of the drug dealings and meth labs. It is all rooted in reality.
4) There are times where you can sit back and relax that are closely followed by some scary moments. The whole thing is not a horror movie or a thriller. Although it is slow at times, you are thankful for those times when you can breathe, as someone is often getting shot in the fact the next second later.
5) It is gonna go DOWN at the last episode. Our minds are sure to be BLOWN. From seeing the flashes to the future, a series of events are sure to take place that will make for the most badass, mind-blowing, series finale.
How far will Walt go to protect his family? Will he be gone for good at the end of the show? How will those flashes to the end of the plot be incorporated into the series? Is it all part of one big plan? Will anyone else die before the end? All shall be revealed.
It’s a show that you’ll have to take some time to yourself to get caught up on. I would recommend watching alone, because it’s not really the family night kind of movie, (don’t bring the little ones). I know I caught up with Breaking Bad REAL fast, so if I can catch up so can you, ya BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!
