Hello Beautiful People,
Happy TV Tuesday! (And Tony Tuesday, too! Don’t worry, we’ll get to that later.)
Normally, I tend to gravitate toward drama episodic television. I love SCANDAL. I love Revenge. I am from the generation that watched Dawson’s Creek religiously, I think I might of wrote to the producers of Full House when it was taken off of the air.
Yes, I’m a girl who enjoys Sex and the City. I also have a huge appreciation for the majority of the Showtime Network Series, specifically Homeland.
The Newsroom is my latest obsession.
These are all quality teleivsion shows, but they are most certainly dramas. And it’s not like I have some need to be dark and depressing, I don’t exactly thrive of off sadness, it’s jsut that the scripts are written in a way that makes me WANT to keep watching. And thus far, there hasn’t been a comedic series that’s done that for me…
…until New Girl.
I have my dear friend Jen Bender to thank for this, for as we bonded over our shared love of teleivsion, New Girl was one of the only shows that was on her list that wasn’t on mine. And she stronly suggested I watch.
And so I did.
And Oh. My. Goodness. I appreciate Zooey Deschanel so muchmore after falling in love with this series.
I quite literally laugh out loud multiple times during any given episode.
I laugh so hard my stomach muscles hurt.
Maybe it’s because Jess is a teacher, and that makes me happy. Or maybe it’s because the whole foursome is some modern version of the well oiled machine that was Three’s Company. Maybe it’s because they are all (somewhat) around my age, and remind me of some of my closest friends. Maybe it’s because it’s refreshing to see young profssionals in their thirties living in a loft together, as roomates, rather than living solo in a big spacious penthouses that they can somehow afford on a freelance writers salary. Maybe it’s because friendship and loyalty and happiness take precedence in the lives of the fab foursome.
All I know is this, through the humor, and the quirkiness, and the sometimes slapsticky nature, there is humor, heart, and a beautiful depiction of humanity.
