Hello Beautiful People,
After washing the scent of campfire from my hair, I’ve finally sat down at my desk, armed and ready to write todays article.
…and this wasn’t all what I had in mind.
I mean, the easy way out was to post a press release for one of the countless shows that’s opening across the country in the coming weeks.
But, that just seemed wrong to do on Memorial Day.
Ya feel me?
Instead, perhaps it’s best, and the most “teachsperience” type post we’ll have, to pay homage and honor to where it’s due.
…the Vets. The Fallen. The ones who are still here.
They are the reasons why I can write so freely, and so, these words are for them.
Last weekend, my grandfather went on his first Honor Flight.
For those of you who don’t know, honor Flight honors our veterans who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam by flying them to see the memorials built in their honor in Washington, DC.
My Nonno, well, he’s 90. He’s a feisty Italian man, who, despite being born in Italy and living the earlier part of his life there, thinks that The United States of America is the greatest country in the world.
He’s proud of that.
He’d tell anyone that.
He’d die for that.
My grandfather was in the navy during World War II. And he, without a doubt, is the best of example of what it means to be the part of The Greatest Generation. For he is a man who exudes love. Honor. Dignity. Compassion.
He is a man who would jump in front bullets for his family and the ones that he loved, and one who would take ones for those he has never met.
And yet, violence is never what fueled him. But rather the notion of right and wrong, good and evil. For when he was on that honor flight, and the younger generations asked him question – the first thing he advised was to go to school. Get an education. Learn the power of the pen, for it is only then that you will understand the power that comes from yielding the sword.
Happy Memorial Day, beautiful People.
May you remember the fallen – their sacrifice, their heart, and their glory.
May you never take this country in which you live for granted, for it is their sacrifice that makes your freedom to speak your mind possible.
Live, Love, Learn,
