Hello Beautiful People,
I’m so grateful for my own mother.
She’s a pillar of strength, beauty, and grace.
She’s a source of endless support for my brother and I.
To me, to us, she’s perfect.
But, I recognize that there’s plenty of people out there without a mother. Whether the relationship is lacking in love & support, or she’s no longer gracing the earth with her presence, there are people who don’t have moms to hug on this special day.
I was reminded of this when a student of mine sent me a text message, Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! Love you!
Now, this student is not my child.
And in fact, this student does have a mother who is living and breahting amongst us today.
But, I hold a place of importance in her life.
Sometimes I am there when mom cannot be.
And that’s ok.
In fact, I’d venture to say that’s a beautiful thing.
Because like fatherhood, motherhood comes in all shapes and sizes.
All different people.
All different walks of life.
Genetics is not the only thing that makes you a mother.
For there is no DNA strand for care and love and concern and selflessness.
So here’s to wishing all you mother’s out there a beautiful day today, tomorrow, and all the rest of the days of the year.
For your love, well, it makes our world go round.
