Hello Beautiful People,
Our newest Q&A series is entitled The Movers & Shakers Q&A Series. It is a series dedicated to artists, social activists, writers, playwrights, actors, and, of course, eductators. We feel as though these beautiful souls make this big, bad world a better place. We feel as though they are the ones, who, in their own indavidual & creative ways, move us. They shake up what needs to be jumbled. They make us look inward, and they channel their energies outward, and they do so in the name of change, art, good, and love.
Without further ado, we’d like to introduce you all to the ever so effervescent, the unbelievably compassionate, the girl who has a voice like a songbird, a heart of gold, and the gold glitter nails to match, Eryn Eddy.
MM: First things first, how did So Worth Loving come to be?
EE: So Worth Loving evolved from my music. I am an artist that wanted to create fan merch that was as uplifting just as my music, and So Worth Loving fell off my tongue. After experimenting with this phrase, using stencil and spray paint on my personal shirts and the shirts of my friends, I found myself spray painting this phrase on random strangers shirts that were sent in from all around the world after launching a SWL tumblr blog full of empowering quotes, inspirational visuals, and of course people wearing their So Worth Loving shirt I created for them. It evolved into what is because of our community. Our family. #swlfamily
MM: We believe that music is the spice of life, and that it has the ability to heal wounds that the rest of the world cannot see. Would you agree or disagree with this statement?
EE: I 100% agree. For me music is not only one of the best inventions but it’s therapeutic. It helps me experience emotions that I didn’t know I had in my being. It connects you with yourself better as well as other people.
MM: What are the top three pieces of advice you’ve received in regards to your career and education?
EE: 1. Be honest- Allow yourself to be vulnerable…not necessarily to people, but to yourself. Expose your ideas through thoughts and journaling. Uncover what you might have buried, and be honest with your thoughts and desires.
2. Have a teachable spirit- I don’t know everything and won’t know everything when starting a business, and that is ok. I will be constantly learning. It is important for me to remain a sponge ask questions and seek wisdom from people that have been where I currently.
3. Be determined- Don’t take “no” personally. You will have a lot of no’s that come your way. As Mark Burnett says “no means next opportunity”.
MM: What can the world expect next from So Worth Loving?
EE: We are a lifestyle brand, and we are continually molding what that looks like. We truly believe that if you live your life through the lens that you have worth, your boundaries, relationships, and view of self will only grow and become stronger. Through that lens, you will be able to live your life with passion, but it’s getting to that point that is tough. Because of that we are here to embrace your past with you while reinforcing your worth. You can expect to see us approach the topics that block our view of living through that lens on our blog, while taking fashion to another level!!
MM: Here at The Write Teacher(s), many of us work with “at-risk” youth. These students are recovering drug addicts; struggling drug addicts, teenage parents, and almost all of them come from broken homes. The struggles, demons, and anger that our students face is often a hindrance to their progress in school and life in general. Do you have any words of wisdom to offer these students?
EE: I can only image the types of emotions that you experience when coming from a broken home, dealing with addictions, and many other hardships. For me, I had a verbally abusive relationship in my household, and that hindered my growth in relationships as well as the view of myself. My encouragement would be that when going through those hardships, facing the real emotions is SO HARD, but through determination you can overcome it and you become stronger. Here are few things and am still learning along the road of recovery:
UNDERSTAND that standing strong is not becoming numb and building walls,
ACCEPT that it’s okay to feel. It’s okay to experience a moment of weakness before you become strong,
BE ENCOURAGED that facing the pain and your weaknesses takes incredible strength,
BELIEVE that you will and can overcome this with determination and bravery on your side,
TRUST that you are WORTH standing up for yourself
MM: Here at The Write Teacher(s), we believe that art drives life, and theatre transforms lives. Would you agree or disagree with those statements? Why?
EE: ABSOLUTELY AGREE!! Art allows you to feel and connect. It brings motion to our lives and we are able to become the person we are meant to be through art. It is so important to allow yourself to feel and through the arts we feel. We experience areas of our lives we didn’t know we had. We are challenged to face fear and become comfortable in who we are.
MM: Just for fun, what’s your favorite movie?
EE: My favorite movie by far is Gidget with Sandra Dee. I identified with her so much growing up. She is a spunky and feisty petite girl who is judged by her appearance because she is the shortest in her friend circle. She dealt with name calling and yet she didn’t allow the opinions of other women to affect her.
MM: Who is/was your greatest teacher?
EE: I don’t think I could pin point one teacher. I had three teachers that impacted my life greatly. My spanish teacher, Dr. Fitc, taught me a life lessons on gossip and it was “believe half of what you see and none of what you hear”. I take this into every relationship.
To Eryn, Micaela, and the rest of our So Worth Loving family…we thank you, we love you, and we are inspired by you.
