Hello Beautiful People,
I first stumbled upon the writings & musings of Roo Ciambriello when I was on the website of another Mover & Shaker, the phenomeal photographer Ms. Tiffany Farley. You see, not only is Tiffany a Mover & Shaker, but she’ll making The Write Teacher(s) a little bit more…lovely, and taking some pictures for me in the near future! So, Tiffany had taken photos of Roo, and with a name like that, I was intrigued! I started reading {Nice Girl Notes}, and the belly laughs started “write” away. She’s a person who moves & shakes & makes this world a little bit more lovely with her creativity, and that’s what this series is all about.
AND, well, she quoted 3 Ninjas. I always had a crush on Rocky. For those of you who know this reference...bless you.
TWT: First things first, did you always want to be a writer?
RC: I think in my heart I did. Hahaha, let’s cue some awful elevator music to go with that answer. It just seemed like such a lofty dream, but finally I was like, “You know… maybe I can do whatever I want.”
TWT: Can you explain to our readers a little bit about {Nice Girl Notes} and how it came about?
RC: Sure… I was a stay at home mom with an almost 2 year old and a 6 month old, and I was itching for a creative outlet. Really, I was itching to write. I had been reading blogs for a while and toyed with the idea of starting one of my own. I actually spent a couple of months preparing (going through WordPress tutorials, emailing a couple of bloggers I admired, thinking of a url) before I actually launched. Now it’s just this laidback humor site (in my mind). I have so much fun with it.
TWT: What three pieces of advice would you give to high school students wanting to pursue a career writing professionally?
RC: 1) Read a lot. 2) Write a lot (even if it’s in a Word document on your computer that you pray to God no one finds). 3) Find community – a few trusted people who will give you honest feedback and rally behind you. Do the same for them.
TWT: In a perfect world, what type of genre would you choose to write on a daily basis?
RC: Right now my two focuses are a ridiculous humor blog with lots of LOL speak, and copywriting for brands who want a fun, slightly irreverent voice. I have other clients and projects, but those two are my absolute favorites.
TWT: In today’s economy, arts programs in schools are being cut. What reasons would you give a politician for preserving the arts?
RC: Oh gosh, what’s that quote by Albert Einstein that’s probably not by Albert Einstein since everything on the internet is made up? Ahh, this: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Some of us are numbers people. Some of us are doctors. Some of us are creatives. Everyone’s gifts need to be nurtured.
TWT: Just for fun, what’s your favorite movie? Or, top five if you can’t pick just one.
RC: 3 Ninjas. “Rocky loves E-mi-ly.” That’s probably a lie. Also, I just dated myself, but I don’t care.
TWT: Who is/was your greatest teacher?
RC: Mr. Rancourt, fourth grade. I’d make up some wild story in the middle of science class (my least favorite subject). Half the time he’d remind me to stay on task, but the other half of the time, he’d entertain my monologues. It was a nice balance, although I probably deserved a trip or two to the principal’s office.
Thanks, Roo!
