“Compassion is an action word with no boundaries.” – Prince
I had a very different post scheduled for today.
And then I saw it on our twitter feed – RIPPrince.
What?
WHAT?
That’s impossible.
Right?
I mean, I remember reading about how he just saw Hamilton. And was so wonderful towards everyone in the show. I was just joking about him with my musical partner, Nat.
I mean, he was fifty seven.
Surely this was a mistake…
…right?
I’ve never wanted be wrong so badly.
But alas, our Prince has left us. And the world once again is reeling from the loss of an icon. A source of inspiration for so many. A legend.
The word artist doesn’t quite seem to do him justice…
At this date, he has sold over 100 million records worldwide. He’s the recipient of seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and honestly, that’s just the tip of the kingdom.
He was a writer, a singer, a multi instrumentalist. He was an advocate and an icon. A husband. A lover. A brother. A son. A friend.
His influence on other artists is immeasurable – whether it’s stylistically, or his actual music + lyrics, as he wrote songs for many, many, many other artists.
Prince is gone….and all the doves will cry today, and all the words in the world will never be enough at this moment in time.
Tomorrow when we wake up, I hope we all see a bit differently. I hope we listen a bit closer, and love a bit stronger, and laugh a bit louder. I hope when the sun sets tomorrow, you’ll find the glimmer of purple lingering on the horizon, and enjoy the fact that you got to grace this earth another day. Tomorrow when we wake up, I hope more people put heart and art into this world, for it seems that the best way to honor those who have inspired us, is to keep creating.
